Course Description

Building on the foundational skills acquired in Industrial Sewing Basics (Level 1), this intermediate course takes participants deeper into the speed and precision of industrial sewing. With a focus on advanced techniques and more complex projects, learners will enhance their ability to work with diverse fabric materials, master industrial-grade equipment, and achieve professional-level results.
Learners will refine their stitching accuracy, handling techniques, quality assurance, machine troubleshooting, and assembly methods while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols. Through hands-on instructions, learners will also be guided to use the cover stitch and overlock machines. This training is ideal for those aiming to elevate their expertise for professional growth within the industry standard.

Course Outline

Session 1: Troubleshooting

Develop a strong foundation in industrial sewing by learning the anatomy of sewing machines and key safety protocols for workspace navigation. This section covers threading techniques, proper maintenance routines, and troubleshooting common machine issues such as thread tangles or skipped stitches. Participants will also practice controlling machine speed and fabric feeding to build confidence and precision.

Session 2: Cover Stich

Delve into the mechanics and applications of cover stitch machines. Learn how to set up and operate a cover stitch machine, including adjusting thread tension and stitch length for optimal results. Explore its uses in creating professional hems, decorative stitching, and securing fabric edges. Emphasis is placed on troubleshooting stitch irregularities and mastering techniques for various fabric types to achieve clean, durable finishes.

Session 3: Overlock

Focus on mastering the overlock machine, a key tool for seam finishing and edge reinforcement. This session highlights the importance of achieving smooth, professional overlock edges and understanding when and how to use overlock stitching for structural integrity in garment construction.

Session 4: Nine Samples

Advance your technique with curved seams, working with multi-layered fabrics, and integrating closures such as elastics, drawstrings, and fasteners. Participants will practice managing complex fabric textures and thicknesses while maintaining smooth and consistent stitching. This session focuses on refining control and adaptability across various sewing challenges.

Session 5: Working with Color

Enhance your finishing techniques with a focus on quality control, such as inspecting stitches for uniformity and ensuring seam durability. Participants will also practice working with fabric textures, colors, and thread matching to elevate the aesthetic and functional appeal of their projects. The session concludes with speed-based sewing exercises to simulate real-world production demands.
