Course Description

In this workshop, critical thinking is highlighted as a key skill for navigating and fostering inclusivity. Participants are encouraged to engage deeply with various perspectives, challenging assumptions and biases to better understand the complexities of working in diverse environments. 

This course is designed to create a space where diverse viewpoints are explored and respected, without prescribing that workplaces must be diverse or multicultural. Instead, the focus is on equipping participants with the ability to think independently, analyze controversial issues, and form well-rounded opinions. This approach empowers individuals to address workplace challenges thoughtfully, promoting inclusivity as a practice informed by careful consideration and understanding. 

Course Outline

Introduction to Critical Thinking and Inclusivity 

The workshop will begin by introducing participants to the concept of critical thinking as a foundational skill for fostering inclusivity in the workplace. Participants will explore the importance of questioning assumptions, challenging biases, and engaging with diverse perspectives. The goal is to help individuals develop the ability to analyze complex issues related to diversity and inclusion, enabling them to navigate these challenges with a thoughtful and informed approach.

Analyzing Real-World Scenarios

Participants will engage with a series of case studies that present real-world scenarios involving issues such as racism, religious expression, and cultural practices. Each case study is designed to provoke critical reflection and discussion, allowing participants to examine their own beliefs and biases. By working through these scenarios, participants will gain practical experience in addressing and resolving conflicts related to inclusivity in the workplace. 

Understanding Marginalization and Ethical Dilemmas

A key focus of the workshop will be on improving participants’ decision-making processes, particularly in situations that involve competing interests or conflicting values. Through exercises and reflective activities, participants will learn to recognize and mitigate biases that may influence their decisions. The aim is to equip individuals with the tools to make fair, informed, and inclusive choices that promote a positive and respectful workplace environment. 

Developing Inclusive Decision-Making Skills

As remote work and diverse team dynamics increase, effective communication becomes more challenging. This workshop focuses on addressing these challenges by bringing together insights from leaders who face communication hurdles in the workplace. You’ll analyze issues related to building rapport and develop actionable strategies to enhance communication within remote teams. 

Creating and Leading Discussions on Inclusivity

In the final part of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create and lead their own discussions on issues related to inclusion, equity, and diversity. By designing and presenting case studies based on their own experiences or research, participants will deepen their understanding of the challenges associated with fostering inclusivity. This exercise will also help participants develop their facilitation skills, enabling them to contribute to ongoing conversations about diversity and inclusion in their own workplaces.
